DURING THE SESSION
Newborn portrait sessions typically last between 2-3 hours in lenght. It seems a really long time, but it usually passes very quickly and it allows for any neccassary breaks for cuddling, soothing and feeding as baby’s needs are our priority. I will not be in any rush. I will take as much time as needed for the baby to fall into the perfect sleep, because once baby is fully asleep they allow me to pose them, which procuces the more adorable images. I will begin by photographing your baby together with all family members. After these photos are achieved, I will photograph your newborn in the props that you have chosen or provided.
TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SESSION
BEFORE THE SESSION
Please try to feed the baby before we start our session. Babies with full tummies are always happy and sleepy by the time we are getting ready to shoot and this will make it easier for everybody. Have the baby dressed in something that snaps or ties and doesn’t have to come off their head like a onesie. We want clothing removal to be as easy as possible.
Try to stay away from eating spicy, dairy and any other gassy foods if you are breastfeeding at least 72 hours before the session. The number of reason newborns are fussy is because they have upset tummies. Also keeping your baby awake prior to the session contributes to having a soundly sleeping during the session.
Don’t forget to make sure to keep your home very warm for the comfort of your baby. Put ready anything you would like to incorporate in the portraits…. i.e. a blanket, a stuffed animal etc.
